The Archives of Sierra College History

Sierra College was officially established in 1936, although earlier colleges that are historically linked to Sierra College were in existence from 1882 onward. The college’s rich history is preserved in The Archives of Sierra College History in room LRC 442 of the Rocklin campus Learning Resources Center/Library.

The Archives of Sierra College History includes these collections:

  • Photographs of the college from 1882 to the present

The Archives of Sierra College History also houses these collections:

  • The Lee Rolin Art Collection — Rolin was a Sierra College graphic artist from 1971-1988. She designed many exhibits for the college and was the primary designer for the college catalogs and class schedules during her years of service.
  • The Dr. David Beesley Sierra Nevada Research Collection — Dr. Beesley was a Professor of History at Sierra College for 28 years from 1970-1998. He is the author of Crow’s Range: An Environmental History of the Sierra Nevada (University of Nevada Press, 2004). Upon his retirement, Dr. Beesley donated his collection of Sierra Nevada research materials to the Sierra College Archives.  This collection represents more than thirty years of research effort.
  • Standing Guard Audiotapes and Transcripts — The Standing Guard Project is an award-winning examination of Japanese American Internment during World War II. The recorded oral histories and transcripts associated with this project are housed in the college archives.
  • The Temperance Collection — a collection of books and articles related to the Temperance Movement. One book in the collection dates to 1716.
  • The John H. Plimpton Collection — seventeen binders of information on the history and natural history of the American River.

Grant Information

The Archives of Sierra College History is also the home of the Foundation Center Foundation Directory Online. This online resource provides information on thousands of possible grants and funding sources.

Research Information

All materials in the Archives of Sierra College History are available for research. All materials must be viewed and utilized in the Archives. Documents may not be removed from the premises. A sign-in form must be completed.

The Archives of Sierra College History is governed by Sierra College Administrative Procedure No. AP 3301.
